Origin: Meditarean region, spread and naturalized in Asia and North Africa, but also Europe and North America.
Shungiku is a prevalent Mediterranean species of flowering plants in the daisy family of Asteraceae producing distinguishable central and peripheral dormant cypselae with a hard fruit coat.
Known for its earthy, crisp, floral aromatic carrot-like flavor, it is a symbolic plant assimilated to longevity known in Folk also as the queen of flowers or the oracle flower.

Color and texture: Sango reveals a reddish-white stem and intense purple-russet colored cotyledons. It is the darkest of any of the red sprouting varieties.

Nutritional information: As all the brassica vegetables, red radishes contain plant compounds that turn into isothiocyanates. Cholesterol and sodium levels in radish sprouts are very low. It is also a good source of vitamin A, thiamin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, calcium, iron and copper, and a great source of vitamin C, niacin, vitamin B6, folate, magnesium, phosphorus, and manganese.
